Wanted: custom Frock Coat with mods
I can't sew, but, I can dream.
I've posted this at Etsy, but, would rather pass the business here.
Have no idea what this should cost. I'm not particular about the material. Heck...if this could be made out of flannel or khaki and dyed brown, I wouldn't care...as long as it's heavy enough material, to be considered a coat/jacket.
Thanks for looking,
-Z

I may be able to direct you to my seamstress, as she takes commissions, and is currently working on a beautiful frock coat for myself. Should I point her in this direction?

Re: Wanted: custom Frock Coat with mods
I got this offer...
I doubt I could get cheaper:
I doubt I could get cheaper:
I would use a duck cotton for the medium weight as it holds shape and is weather resistant for fall and spring. Adding a lining of a light weight satin would make it a gorgeous finishing touch. The buttons and pockets you request are no problem. This pattern would be the basis for your frock coat, BUT I would add to the length, change the pockets to your specifications....
Completion Date: 10/30/2008
Price: $40.00
Re: Wanted: custom Frock Coat with mods
That looks almost too good to be true. If she can pull off a good coat for you as specified, at that or a slightly higher price, point her in our direction and let the commissions pour in.

It does, but, duck cloth is cheap.Abraxas wrote:That looks almost too good to be true. If she can pull off a good coat for you as specified, at that or a slightly higher price, point her in our direction and let the commissions pour in.
Her name is fancypantsflounces.

Many thanks to you. I added her to favorites so I'll remember when the time comes. Duck Cloth IS inexpensive, but I won't hold that against it...its versatile, tough, can be water-resisted yet isn't too warm. It's the new denim.
By the way, love your blog, Zaphod. whiled away a wonderful insomniac hour the other night with it.

And thank you for the confirmation on the duck cloth Abraxas. Denim is what I thought of when I looked the duck up.
Ah..it fills my heart with blood to know that someone read it, and actually liked it.Abraxas wrote:

Utilikilts are duck cloth, as is a long black coat, and pair of cargo pants I have. The kilt and coat have to be line dried or laid flat, and pressed so as to keep their shape and not shrink or deform. The pants I like wrinkly.

My wife hates to iron, sooo...I'll probably get this dry-cleaned. That way it comes back ironed.
